My writing on Storytelling Interconnectedness [my workshop series on speculative climate fictions and digital maps] is now published in The Place Bureau's Natural Futures Report that explores human spaces and the natural world. Storytelling Interconnectedness situates climate stories in the real and imaginary: what does it mean to upload speculative fictions as mapped data points? How can we geolocate the uncertainties we feel about our changing environments over time?

I mentored as a 'Sandbox Advisor' to the project groups 'a (re)imitation of life' and 'Glory Mold' through explore their three month R&D, the More Than AI Sandbox, with Pervasive Media Studio. Intro to Climate History and Playing with Media Overwhelm Talk for ITP Camp at NYU New York City

I gave an artist talk at ITP Camp to fellow campers that introduced the history of climate change. Through some project examples, I described some digtial media methods I use in my own practice, as well as in collaborative projects like climate investigations and with the forestscapes project, which uses audio and visual media collaging with Supercollider and Sam Lavigne's videogrep tool.

ITP Camp at NYU New York City

I joined ITP Camp for June 2024! Not quite a residency but a long period of peer learning based at the ITP/IMA programme facilities at the NYU Jay Street campus. After moving away from 7 months working as a data engineer, I was happy to be in a creative space experimenting with different technologies, playing with a mix of soft- and hardwares with intro sessions to media forms across audio, visual and tactile, like e-textiles. Each day was marked with faculty and peer-led workshops, often giving tasters into a digtial tool or method, which Campers used towards general learning or a project. Towards the end of the month I spent some extra time on digital embroidery and showed my small piece at the Show ALL Things Show. (June 3, 2024 → June 27, 2024)

'Storytelling Interconnectedness: geolocating our climate histories and speculative stories as data in virtual and real landscapes' now in the publication Futuring Waters: A Speculative Manifesto from and for the Waters of Eleusina

My essay reflects on my workshop series 'Storytelling Interconnectedness' (2022-2023) that explores speculative climate timelines through digital mapping. I delivered workshop iterations for Futuring Waters by Jenny Marketou between 15-17th June 2023 as part of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture in Elefsina, Greece.

It covered a introduction to climate change history, climate literacy (beyond the metrics and looking at community needs) and possible frameworks for the arts sector.

Interdisciplinary Workshop to Explore Forest Soundscapes

During my first workshop with forestscapes, we listened to the collated sound files relating to forest issues - from researcher field recordings of sites experiencing deforestation, forest fires, reforestation, and more. We collectively framed critical questions to beign approaching listening as a method for understanding this wide and complex issue of forest life in changing environments and times.

Visiting Lecturer: Games and Playful Narratives for MA Global Media Management at WSA, University of Southampton

For the Spring term, Francis Gene-Rowe and I co-led the Games and Playful Narratives strand for the MA module Global Media 2: Industries and Technologies. As a seminar tutor, I led the weekly creative and practical workshops – following Francis' theory sessions – and in these, the student groups created their own digital or paper-based games, through narrative, character, and game design and mechanics. The Growing Project: Digital Narrative Game

In place of a project evaluation report, Grand Union commissioned me to produce an interactive artwork to convey the work of The Growing Project, 'a transformative community programme using art making, gardening, cooking and simply being together as a way of offering support and friendship to people passing through difficult times, partnering with organisations supporting vulnerably-housed people and those experiencing crisis.' I produced 'The Growing Project: Digital Narrative Game', weaving the people, activities and creatures across the 7 sites of The Growing Project, and it is now playable online. (March 1, 2023 → June 1, 2024)

Artist Talk and Storytelling Interconnectedness: Digital Storymapping Workshop for Architectures of Planetary Well-being with re:arc institute at the Design Museum London

Speaking to re:arc institute's first gathering, an audience in architecture and spatial practices, my artist talk outlined my journey into a climate justice aligned art practice. I gave a presentation of current research areas, such as into the greenwashing in the UK defence sector and what this entails as a climate narrative against the long, colonial history of climate change. I also delivered an iteration of my digital mapping speculative climate stories workshop.

'Visualising Data and Investigating Images' with the Social Data School with Cambridge Digital Humanities

For the Social Data School, I applied with the beginnings of my research project, Critiquing a ‘Sustainable Military’, which examines the UK Ministry of Defence’s climate change framing, whose aims set to achieve a net-zero “sustainable military” by 2050. The talk sessions and hands-on workshops throughout the Social Data School gave me insights into digital methods, investigative and journalistic methods of approaching my research beyond my usual arts practice methodologies.
